Sometimes, it’s hard to believe when something good comes out of a year filled with pandemics, civil unrest and Mother Nature wreaking havoc across the country. But just as New Orleanians have in the past when faced with hardship, we do what we can to pull ourselves back up and make the most out of whatever situation arises.
Husband and wife team Charlie and Mia Halloran found a new business venture as their day jobs were put on hold this year. Gifted a sewing machine while in quarantine, the jazz trombonist and swing dance instructor, respectively, combined their shared love of all things vintage – on her Instagram shop @goldenleveevintage Mia resells vintage clothing sourced during her world travels – and Charlie’s love of baseball to create Crescent Pennant Co.
Crescent Pennant Co. is an Instagram shop selling custom, handmade baseball pennants with different designs and phrases specific to New Orleans. Currently, the duo is finishing up a series dedicated to different New Orleans neighborhoods like Treme, St. Roch and Carrollton.
When we first saw the designs of Crescent Pennat Co. our first thought immediately went to engagement parties and couple’s shower celebrations. What a sweet, one-of-a-kind present or decoration that the couple could keep forever.
The Hallorans admit they are new to the game when it comes to making custom pieces, but their handful of styles based on automotive designs, vintage collegiate pennants and baseball jerseys offer a little something for everyone.
To customize, choose from basic styles, pick a fabric and paint colors, then, once a stencil is made, there is no limit to the number you can order. (Kelly here: we’re loving this for a groomsman gift, or friends from college.)
The first pennant and design is priced at $115 and multiples of the same design are $50. Orders can be placed through direct message on Instagram. Delivery is currently available to New Orleans customers. Also a new size option – 23 inches by 11 inches — is in the works.
