Planned Parenthood Gulf Coast hosted its Safe Sex in the Big Easy Gala on Tuesday, November 8, to promote sexual health and the importance of practicing safe sex. The event was made possible through the devoted efforts of chairman Kimberly Milano White with the help of Mimi and John Bowen; Alana Michelle Brennan; Gloria Giarratano; Susan and James Gundlack; Marilee and Andrew Hovet; Lee Ledbetter; Anne and Edmund Redd; Anne and Bill Richardson; Parker Sternbergh; and Lynne and Hunter White. About 75 attendees united at the home of Henrietta and Terry Hall in Old Metairie to raise $48,000 for the organization’s general operations.
The celebration featured live performances by jazz trio The Last Straws, a raffle to win a weeklong ski getaway in Vail, culinary creations provided by Joel Catering and appearances by CEO of Planned Parenthood Peter Durkin and the organization’s COO Melaney Linton.
This event is the primary fundraiser for Planned Parenthood of Louisiana and the Mississippi Delta, which strives to carry out fundamental goals of the organization including providing contraception and other health services to women and men, funding research on birth control, along with educating specialists and the public regarding results and advancing access to family planning on both a national and international level.
