Podcast: Casa Borrega – Traditional Mexican Cuisine in a Funky Atmosphere

Hugo Montero is the owner of Casa Borrega. This unique restaurant is unlike any other Mexican restaurant in New Orleans, thanks to its unique, eclectic interior. To create the funky, colorful ambiance, Montero and his wife assembled a mix of found objects from New Orleans' many neighborhoods. The result is a memorable setting where Montero, a native of Mexico, offers authentic Mexican fare: dishes that Mexicans eat in their native country. Mole sauce is one of the traditional Mexican offerings at Casa Borrega. Montero explains the origins of mole and describes how it is made. Listen as Montero shares his perspectives about the cultural similarities between New Orleans and Mexico.
