PODCAST: Jefferson Chamber Foundation Academy Helps Kids Who Need It

Millie Harris is the executive director of the Jefferson Chamber Foundation Academy. This academy was designed to provide an innovative education for students who are unable to function successfully in a traditional high school. As Harris explains: "Students are allowed to progress at their own pace.” Harris points out that many of the Academy's students have very adult responsibilities such as being primary caregivers for family members or having children themselves. The Academy first opened on the West Bank in Jefferson Parish in 2010 through a partnership with the Jefferson Parish Public School System. Since its opening, the West Bank location has graduated 84 students, and 35 percent of these graduates have gone on to post-secondary education. In this podcast, Harris tells us about the Academy's recently opened location on the East Bank that caters to students in Orleans Parish as well as from the entire state.
