Angie Green is the executive director for Save Our Cemeteries, a non-profit organization dedicated to restoring the historic cemeteries of New Orleans. The city's unique above-ground cemeteries, or little cities of the dead, are well-known New Orleans landmarks. In this podcast, Green explains when and why this distinctive burial tradition began, and she gives us a little history about two of the better-known cemeteries. Green also tells us where the famous Voodoo Queen, Marie Laveau, is buried. Every November, Save Our Cemeteries holds an annual All Saints Soiree fundraiser. Green gives us some details about the upcoming 2013 gala coming up at 7 p.m. Nov. 9; the soiree will be held in Saint Louis Cemetery No. 3 on Esplanade Avenue in Faubourg St. John.
