Connie Uddo is the Executive Director of St. Paul's Homecoming Center. In this podcast, Uddo explains that the Center is an outreach of St. Paul's Episcopal Church and School. St. Paul's created the Center to address the needs of people in Lakeview following the devastation of Hurricane Katrina. As the recovery took hold in the Lakeview neighborhood, Uddo and her colleagues realized that the Center could do more to extend the recovery by moving to the Gentilly area where it continued its recovery mission. Once the Gentilly area began to improve significantly and funding for recovery programs was dwindling, Uddo had to think about how the Center could evolve to best serve the community. On Jan. 1, 2014, the senior community center was born. The senior community center offers activities such as virtual Wii bowling and gardening.
