Pre-Wedding Workouts

It’s easy to indulge in New Orleans — especially with pre-wedding celebrations: a glass of bubbly here and a cake tasting there. But don’t fret — you can work it off. Several studios around town offer fitness plans that get the body in perfect condition for a wedding dress — and a honeymoon bikini, to boot. From surfing (yep!) to spinning to personal training, here are five of the best pre-wedding day workouts in the Crescent City.

Pure Barre
With two locations in the New Orleans-area, Pure Barre delivers a full-body workout in just 55 minutes. Here, low-impact, isometric movements help to create long, lean muscles without bulk — or a lot of sweat. Bonus: Results can be seen in just 10 classes. Pure Barre’s Bride-to-Be Promo includes three months of unlimited classes for $400. In addition, the New Orleans’ studios offer bridal party discounts and a bachelorette barre-ty: a fun and healthy private class for you and your besties. (Locations on Magazine Street, in Metairie and in Mandeville.)

Higher Power Nola
Higher Power Nola is a distinct (and powerful!) combination of cycling, yoga and TRX that makes for a great workout. Owner Mark Berger says, “We believe in the balance of mind, body and spirit. Therefore, we offer cardio with our high-energy cycling; the flow and mindfulness with power yoga; and strength and conditioning with TRX classes.  We cater to all fitness levels and believe in a community environment that is inclusive and a lot of fun!” The six-week, $250 bridal package includes an individual fitness and nutrition consultation, unlimited classes and five guest passes. (Located at 514 City Park Ave.)

Pole Perfect Fitness
This sassy French Quarter studio ensures a workout that’s fun, slimming and toning — all while performing on a pole. While it’s totally innocent, it’s not easy. According to owner and instructor Kimberly Lobert, “Pole dancing is both a cardio and strength workout, which can burn 800 calories an hour.” This exercise effectively combines strength training, endurance and flexibility into one activity. And for what it’s worth: Climbing the pole is much more difficult than a bicep curl. Pole Perfect’s Bridal Intensive package consists of three private sessions and two group classes ($400) that provide a full body workout, plus an extra boost of confidence for the Big Day. The studio also offers bachelorette parties so that your entire group can dance while getting fit. (Located at 333 Canal St., #380)

City Surf Fitness
Who says you can’t go surfing in the Big Easy? Introducing its first location outside of Texas, City Surf Fitness in Uptown offers six signature classes that incorporate balance, yoga, barre, Pilates, cardio and strength training techniques — all while balancing on the signature stabilized surfboard. According to owner Becky Hardin, Surf City is great for brides because of the quick results. She says, “Each trainer and class brings something different, so your routine will never be the same twice; you don’t get bored with City Surf like other workouts.”  She adds, “City Surf will tone all the areas that you’ll be showing off in your dress, like your shoulders, arms, and waistline, [and] you’ll see a difference in your whole body and feel incredibly strong as well.” A great option for pre-wedding workouts is the six-month autodraft membership for $95 per month or a 12-month autodraft at $85. This includes two free friend passes, early invites to events (the studio has a huge backyard for parties) and a free shirt. (Located at 5924 Magazine St.)

Prime Fitness RX
Situated in the CBD, Prime Fitness is a sleek and modern gym that’s open ‘round the clock. Husband-and-wife owners, Sacha and Mark Owens, both professional trainers and nutritionists, offer customized personal coaching and food counseling that’s specific for each bride-to-be. Essentially, this duo is an expert in all-things that require you to get it in gear for the wedding day. At Prime Fitness RX, you can also participate in small group classes (warning: they’re tough) that combine body weight, resistance, suspension, cardio and core training. After, detoxify in the dry sauna for extra glow-y skin. (Located at 607 Julia St.)
