NEW ORLEANS (press release) – The TV show, ”Destination Francophonie“ is a journey throughout the French-speaking world, and recently filmed two episodes in New Orleans and Lafayette. To celebrate, TV5MONDE and Télé-Louisiane are partnering up to host a special premiere for the local Louisiana community. This travel series is a journey throughout the French-speaking world that explores every corner of the globe! Each week, follow Ivan Kabacoff as he explores a new destination in the francophone world. In each country, we meet francophones who present, in French, their culture, way of life and commitments. The program also shines a spotlight on local projects that keep the French language alive, dynamic and constantly evolving. In addition to engaging episodes on TV5MONDEplus, TV5MONDE also offers ready-to-use teaching and learning pedagogic resources to accompany select episodes! Learn French while you watch and after with their educational tools for French language learning!
The New Orleans episode will air on TV5MONDE May 4 at 2:30 p.m. MT and streaming the next day on TV5MONDEplus. The Lafayette episode will air on TV5MONDE May 19 at 2:30 p.m. MT and be available on streaming the next day on TV5MONDEplus.
In two episodes in the Bayou State, Kabacoff explores the diverse fabric of communities that compose francophone Louisiana. In the first episode, he presents the team of Télé-Louisiane, the French and Creole roots of New Orleans Jazz, the legacy of francophone free people of color, the French-speaking Pointe-au-Chien Indian Tribe and more! In the second episode, he shines a light on the vibrant Cajun and Creole music community in and around Lafayette, learns about the complex history of slavery at Laura Plantation, and meets rising star Jourdan Thibodeaux.
