Productivity, Community-Building On Tap In Acadiana

I’m as surprised as anyone that we are about to enter August. And yet, here we are.

While summer is languid and easy, it’s time to pick up the pace. On tap for this week are events for the particularly industrious. There are networking and learning opportunities for small businesses, as well as a rare opportunity to workshop with a comedy legend. Getting drinks for fun and community building is on the table as well, plus a rare pop-up of two of Lafayette’s favorite boutique gyms. Get to it!

8/1: Broussard Women in Business: The Broussard Chamber of Commerce invites Acadiana businesswomen to the Ballroom of Broussard Thursday morning for networking tips to building a personal brand. Broadcast anchor Tracy Lynn Wirtz will discuss balancing family and personal life with her brand, as well as insights into making tough career decisions. Illustrator Aileen Bennett will share some of her experiences with clients and take attendees through the process of accrual exercises she’s done for various Acadiana businesses. This is a hands-on event! Coffee and breakfast will be provided by Chops Specialty Meats. This event begins at 8:30 a.m. and ends at 10:30. Register at Broussardchamber.net.

8/1: Small Business Boot Camp: Opportunity Machine’s free seminar series continues this Thursday night from 6-7:30 p.m. at Cajundome Blvd., Suite 111.  The seminar will focus on online marketing. Local real estate attorney Brandon Bradley will cover employment contracts, liability coverage, worker’s compensation and more. Broussard Poche LLC CPA and CVA Trae O’Pry will provide a better understanding of the basics of accounting such as paying invoices and will be available to answer financial questions for small business owners. Though the seminar is free, attendees are asked to register at Eventbrite.

8/1: Green Drinks: Plan Lafayette’s monthly meeting to network and discuss sustainability takes place this Thursday from 5:30-7 p.m. at The Wurst Biergarten. Presenters of PlanLafayette Day: Sustainability from Campus to Community Events and attendees will be available to continue discussions toward the back by the stage. Select local drafts will be on special! All ideas are welcome.

8/3: Sketch Comedy Writing Workshop by Kevin McDonald: Cite’ des Arts will host legendary sketch group Kids in the Hall’s own Kevin McDonald for a day-long writers’ workshop. Participants will arrive with one pre-made sketch, which McDonald will workshop with the group. The group will re-write each other’s works, and McDonald will provide additional feedback on their final sketches.  Cost is $275, and attendees will attend his show at Warehouse 535 for free.

8/3: Cyclebar + Pure Barre fitness popup: Dat Dog will welcome Cyclebar and PureBarre Fitness Saturday from 10 a.m. – 1:30 p.m. For $25, attendees can spend the afternoon taking one class from each gym, plus snacks and a drink. Sweat, sip and mingle with fellow active Acadianians. All are welcome to participate! Tickets are available via Eventbrite.
