Chaired by Leslie and Carol Hirsch, the American Heart Association’s “Heart of New Orleans” gala generated funds to support education, research and awareness to prevent heart disease and stroke in the area. It was also a fun, early summer evening filled with gourmet food, cocktails with both live and silent auctions.

The black-tie soirée, presented by Touro Infirmary (of which Leslie Hirsch is the CEO), featured stilt walkers, jugglers, caricature artists, mimes and psychics in keeping with the whimsical spirit of New Orleans. Held June 2 at the JW Marriott Hotel, the event generated more than $225,000 for AHA. Eric Paulsen of WWL-TV/Channel 4 served as the Master of Ceremonies and after the live auction, guests danced the night away to the sounds of the Nobles.

The gala itself wasn’t the only party held to raise funds—a “Night in White” patron reception was May 23 at the home of Tulane University’s President and Mrs. Scott S. Cowen. Donning their finest summer whites, top donors indulged in a gourmet dinner, mojitos and mint juleps.
