Purple Reign

On, Dec. 7, Pantone – the authority on all things color – announced its 2018 color of the year. We’re positive Prince had something to do with the choice.

The 2018 color of the year is Ultra Violet. When thinking of what color would represent 2018, a shade of purple was the last color to come to mind. Soothing? Relaxing? Not exactly a realistic representation of the current national climate.

But here we are; and though the LTEC team may be biased – with the purple being my favorite color and the emblem of Melanie’s favorite human, Prince – we believe this pick of hue is a perfect choice for many reasons.

In the announcement of the 2018 pick, Pantone executive director Leatrice Eiseman said, “We are living in a time that requires inventiveness and imagination. It is this kind of creative inspiration that is indigenous to Pantone Ultra Violet, a blue-based purple that takes our awareness and potential to a higher level.

“From exploring new technologies and the greater galaxy, to artistic expression and spiritual reflection, intuitive Ultra Violet lights the way to what is yet to come.”

The color purple has been a reflection of royalty, confidence, unconventionality, peace, and so much more. In a time where injustice and divide plague our society, it’s the idea behind a hue symbolizing calm and unity in the new year. It screams for imagination, and its consistent connection to meditation and mindfulness practices brings about a sentiment of serenity. We can only imagine having the color cast across the world – crazier things have happened, maybe a color can aid in making a positive change.

“Inventive and imaginative,” says Pantone. “Ultra Violet lights the way to what is yet to come.”

Let’s hope that future is ultra bright.
