Record Store Day

This year Record Store Day (RSD) falls on Saturday.   If you are not familiar with RSD, it is an annual event is coordinated to promote independent record sellers around the world.  As part of the event a number of limited edition vinyl pressings are released to participating stores.  These pressings are only available in small quantities and are generally comprised of reissues of legendary records and re-releases of rare live performances.

This year we have eight local shops listed as participating.  Euclid in the Bywater and Peaches Uptown will be hosting events all day with promotions and live music.  Euclid will have donuts for the early risers and beer from Port Orleans.  You can also catch performances by Missy Meatlocker, Washboard Chaz and others.  At Peaches you can look for a performance from Walter Wolfman Washington.  There are some fantastic releases up for sale this year.  There is a list of participating stores at the link below.

Crawfest

If you like boiled crawfish and live music, head on over to Tulane’s uptown campus when you are done with your record shopping (just don’t leave your vinyl in a hot car).  Crawfest returns with over 20,000 pounds of mudbugs and two stages of live music.  This year you can catch a great collection of artists including:  Papadosio, the Baha Men, Brasstracks, Omari Neville and the Fuel, Miss Mojo and Da Truth Brass Band.  In addition to the crawfish and tunes there will be an art market and some other local food vendors including Pizza domenica, Dat Dog and Cane’s.  The weather should be perfect for this event, head out and see just how many crawfish you can eat.  More info and tickets here
