NEW ORLEANS (press release) – “Now boarding” is about to be given new meaning as skateboarders from New Orleans and across the South will converge in a one-of-a-kind competition at MSY’s now-abandoned airport terminal. On May 1-2, a lucky group of skaters will get to experience what they’ve all daydreamed about while waiting in baggage claim or walking through the terminal before a flight – a chance to grind and ollie their way through the cavernous concourse.

All weekend, teams representing their hometown skate shops in Memphis, Nashville, Baton Rouge, Birmingham, Pensacola, and New Orleans will utilize the empty terminal to throw a two-day skate jam while capturing the best content from the sessions. At the conclusion of the shoot, each team of skaters and one filmer will submit a video compilation of their team’s top moments for a fan-sourced vote with the winning team receiving a makeover of their skate shop. Crews include:

Memphis – Society Skatepark and Coffee

Nashville – Sixth Avenue Skateshop

Baton Rouge – Rukus Skateshop

Birmingham – Faith Skate Supply

Pensacola – Waterboyz Surf & Skateshop

New Orleans – Humidity Skateshop + Parasite DIY Skatepark
