One of the most anticipated events of the year, nationwide, is the annual Academy Awards ceremony. For those New Orleanians who couldn’t make it to Southern California to see the stars in person, there was a special presentation – an official Oscar Night America – at the Theatres at Canal Place. Oscar Night America, held on February 27, is a charitable program of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences. New Orleans is one of 50 cities around the country that hosts this star-studded event. For the ninth year in a row, the Southeast Louisiana Chapter of the American Red Cross was the sanctioned organization.
Proceeds benefited the organization, which is a humanitarian effort led by volunteers who provide relief to victims of disasters and help prevent, prepare for and respond to emergencies.
Festivities began at 6:30 p.m. with a live broadcast of the Academy Awards, and guests were given the official program – the same one that guests receive at the Kodak Theatre in Hollywood. The event was presented by WGNO ABC26.
