Retailer Spotlight: Greg Coe

Retailer Spotlight: Greg CoeDon’t call Norwalk – The Furniture Idea just a furniture store, as Greg Coe, the Metairie showroom manager says, “We don’t like being compared to a furniture store.” Norwalk – The Furniture Idea is a design center known for its hands-on staff and custom upholstery, with a choice of 200 frame styles, 4,000 fabrics and 200 leathers. Norwalk also offers color consultation for walls, as well as accessories that make a living space appealing: rugs, accessories, lamps, tables and window treatments.

What trends have you observed in the New Orleans furniture market?

New Orleans has always been and will always be a very traditional styled market. But since Hurricane Katrina, my staff and I have observed people are starting to look for something just a little different than they had before the flood … such as sofas with a little more transitional appeal.

What happens when a customer first comes in?
When a customer walks in, a designer greets them. The designer then asks specific questions to find out what the person is looking for. And a tour of the showroom is given.

Why do you think your customers keep returning?
People who have purchased our upholstery know it for its quality. Also, I would never buy the same thing twice for the store, so if you see something you like when you come in, you need to buy it then! I like to keep our accessories, art, lamps and rugs fresh and new.

Is the store offering any specials this month?
May is our special event month—with our best sales of the year. The store will also be showcasing its new Cabo sectional that was presented at the company’s national convention in San Diego.
