California Closets was founded in 1978 and started serving South Louisiana in 1984. With more than 100 franchises worldwide, the store has installed more than 4 million custom storage systems and continues to be an industry leader and innovator. The local franchise, owned by Paul Corona, is located in Metairie; he says that his business serves a wide range of needs, from basic starter closets to upscale designer systems. Recently, the store introduced a new exclusive product line, Lago finishes. Imported from Italy, the line provides the look and texture of a real wood veneer with the affordability of a melamine laminate finish.
What’s the first thing you discuss with a client?
Since our systems are custom-designed, we ask questions and discuss the client’s needs and goals in designing their storage solution. Likes and dislikes regarding their existing space are also very important.
What are some current trends in the business?
Our clients are moving up from basic systems (“just a closet”) to upscale features and designers that coordinate with their bedroom and bathroom suites. We are also seeing clients increasingly using our custom solutions in other areas of the home such as in the home office or media center.
How is your store different than a competitor?
More than 60 years of experience on our design and installation staff, award-winning customer service and a wide range of high-quality products and accessories allow us to maintain a high level of customer satisfaction. Also, our showroom allows our clients to view our products, options and accessories before they purchase. More than 50 percent of our business is repeat and referral from satisfied clients.
