Revel the holidays with Réveillon

Muriel’s Jackson Square is one of several area restaurants offering a special Réveillon dinner this Christmas season.

The French term refers to an extended dinner in celebration of Christmas and New Year’s Day (and traditionally held on the night before each holiday). New Orleanians can celebrate Réveillon, however, all month long with customized menus around the city.

Muriel’s Réveillon celebration features a four-course dinner, including an appetizer of Oyster Pan Roast or Crab and Eggplant. The second course is a choice of Roasted Beet Salad with baby greens, sweet onions, feta cheese and a horseradish vinaigrette; or Duck Confit Salad with baby greens, red onion and toasted pine nuts in a pomegranate vinaigrette. The main course is a choice of Seafood “Bayou-Baisse,” which features Gulf shrimp, oysters and redfish in a crab tarragon broth; Wood-Grilled Fish of the Day served with shrimp risotto, basil beurre blanc and satsuma segments; or Chef Gus’ Lamb Osso Bucco, featuring mint-goat cheese polenta, roasted winter root vegetables and wild mushrooms. The final dessert course features either a Vanilla Bean Crème Brûlée, Pain Perdu Bread Pudding or Apple Spice Cake with eggnog gelato.

Information, 801 Chartres St., 568-1885.

Hamburger & Seafood now on St. Charles

New Orleans Hamburger & Seafood Co. has been serving New Orleans since 1984, specializing in thin-fried catfish and, of course, signature burgers served with garlic herb fries. The company now has six locations, with two new restaurants: one in Harvey and one on 4141 St. Charles Avenue, replacing what used to be Cannon’s Restaurant.

While New Orleans Hamburger & Seafood is known for its burgers, including The Big Ch-Easy and the Rajun’ Cajun, the eatery also features classic New Orleans sandwiches with a twist, such as the Stuff-A-Letta, an interpretation of a Muffaletta served in a one-handed poor boy style.

For the more health conscious eaters, the restaurant features “Whole Meal Salads,” including the Pontchartrain Beach Chicken Salad – grilled chicken, bleu cheese, honey glazed pecans, golden raisins, green apples, carrots and a pepper jelly vinaigrette.
