Reviving a Tradition: Brisbi's Lakefront Restaurant and Bar

Jonathan Brisbi is the owner of Brisbi's Lakefront Restaurant and Bar, located near West End and Lake Pontchartrain. New Orleans has enjoyed a long tradition of seafood restaurants that overlook the popular lake. After Hurricane Katrina's floods destroyed virtually all of the businesses along lake Pontchartrain, the city was without a lakefront seafood restaurant for many years. One of the latest restaurant to open near Lake Pontchartrain is Brisbi's; the restaurant celebrated its one-year anniversary in June 2014. Brisbi's occupies the former locations of the Hong Kong Chinese restaurant, and neighboring Amberjack's restaurant. In this podcast, Jonathan explains the complexities and challenges of building on lakefront property, and dealing with the Corps of Engineers, the State of Louisiana, and local parishes. Brisbi's offers its customers a harbor-side view while they enjoy a variety of seafood dishes, including seasonal boiled seafood, traditional seafood platters, and Fish Pontchartrain: a grilled fish topped with crabmeat and hollandaise sauce. In addition, Brisbi's serves contemporary dishes such as Asian-inspired tuna tartare with nachos and wasabi.
