Rewarding Restoration

New Orleans Homes & Lifestyles and the Preservation Resource Center collaborated to host the fourth annual Renaissance Awards and Heritage Club Luncheon on Thursday, October 13. Attendees, numbered at 340, gathered with co-chairs Patricia Brinson and Lynn Uhalt at the Roosevelt New Orleans to honor and support individuals throughout the community who restore and preserve historical buildings throughout the city.

Charlotte Moss, author of seven books, interior designer and contributing editor for Architectural Digest and the Wall Street Journal Magazine, was this year’s guest speaker. Moss not only discussed design, preservation and architecture, but she also divulged the secrets behind her latest book, Charlotte Moss Decorates: The Art of Creating Elegant and Inspired Rooms to attendees as they enjoyed menu items including butternut squash soup; smoked chicken atop arugula; roasted pears and gorgonzola and red velvet cake.

While Moss was undeniably a wonderfully notable guest, this year’s awards recipients are also outstanding and unique in their commitment to architecture and restoration. J. Wardlaw Witherspoon Jr., Lydia and Blair Francis Scanlon, Wes and Melinda McWhorter, Beverly McKenna, Valorie Hart and Alberto Paz all braved the challenges of home restoration and succeeded with flying colors.

Members of the Heritage Club include PRC supporters who have gone above and beyond to contribute to the livelihood of the organization. As a thank you for their generous efforts, the PRC has hosted their annual luncheon since 1985.
