Since 2011, City Year New Orleans has been hosting its annual “School House Rock” fundraiser for the New Orleans chapter of the education-focused nonprofit organization bringing young people to cities to keep students in school and on track to graduate. College students and graduates come to New Orleans through City Year to teach at public and charter schools, and a few speak at “School House Rock” to reflect on the positives and negatives of their experiences, from their impression of the city and its culture to their teaching experiences.
City Year was pleased to announce that 50 percent of last year’s corps members chose to stay in New Orleans after their year of service and continue on in education.
The evening took the opportunity to honor James Carville and Mary Matalin as the 2014 School House Rock Stars for their unwavering defense of Americorps and its efforts to increase the presence and impact of City Year in New Orleans.
Rosy’s Jazz Hall generously provided edibles for 250 guests as they enjoyed music played by the NOCCA Jazz Ensemble and candied fruit treats from Mr. Apple.
