The Women’s Guild and the Junior Committee of the New Orleans Opera Association held the 2012 Opera Ball on Saturday, May 5, in the Empire Ballroom in the Hyatt Regency Hotel. Composer Pytor Tchaikovsky’s opera “Pikovaya Dana” was the inspiration for the 1800s St. Petersburg, Russia setting of the ball.

The Russian-themed ball began with the Czar and Czarina’s Reception that included signature Russian cocktails and delicacies. The ball also featured a silent auction and a surprise guest. The attendees were also treated to Russian music and entertainment. The original artwork donated by artist Beth Cristina (which was unveiled at the Opera Ball Unveiling/Benefactor party and featured on the cover of the 2012 Opera Ball invitation) was auctioned off at the ball to benefit the New Orleans Opera Association.

All proceeds from the fundraiser will allow the Women’s Guild New Orleans opera to keep the tradition of Opera alive in New Orleans by assisting the New Orleans Opera in the support of its productions and educational programs for children in the New Orleans area.
