Save Our Sponge Tonight

Tonight, the Woodlands Conservancy celebrates 18 years of dedication to “The Sponge” – the vitally important 840 acres of forested wetlands that act to absorb storm water and block wind from the Greater New Orleans Area.  This is important work by anyone’s standards.   The festivities go down at the beautiful New Orleans Jazz Market on Oretha Castle Haley with a patron party at 6 p.m. with doors opening for the main event at 7 p.m.  The patron party features Harry Hardin’s Jazz Quartet and an Acme Oyster House raw bar.  The main event hosts a silent auction, as well as solo piano performances by Tom McDermott and Joe Krown followed by a duet from the two together.  This will be a great night of music in a wonderfully intimate venue all supporting a good cause.  Come out and support the Woodland Conservancy as they strive to keep New Orleans protected from the elements.  Check out Joe Krown’s interpretation of “Tipitina” below.

Robyn Hitchcock Saturday at Gasa Gasa

Legendary singer-songwriter Robyn Hitchcock drops in on Gasa Gasa Saturday night. After first finding fame with The Soft Boys in the 70s, Hitchcock has had an extensive and influential career. In 2017 he released his 21st studio record. The eponymous album is a fantastic exploration of psychedelic rock and its extension into the world of pop. Hitchcock is truly a master of many genres and styles and you never really know what to expect from him. This is a great chance to see him with a small crowd. Below you can see him with Gillian Welch, David Rawlings and Dawes at Newport Folk singing Dylan’s Visions of Johanna.
