Savory Sweet 16

The Crescent City Farmer’s market proved that Sweet 16 parties aren’t just for boy-crazy teenaged girls on October 6, when it celebrated 16 years of being a fresh-food-crazy supplier to New Orleans.  Co-chairs Margaret Saer Beer, Kia Brown and Leah Whann hosted the birthday bash. Fans of the market gathered at Dooky Chase Restaurant to dig into an farm-to-table dinner prepared by Queen of Creole Cuisine Leah Chase and James Beard Award-winning chef John Currence of City Grocery, Snack Bar and Boure, and Big Bad Breakfast in Oxford, Miss.

Founded in 1995, the CCFM has been bringing New Orleanians fresh foods three times per week for 16 years. Locals pay 123,605 visits to the market every year, allowing the market to impact the local economy with $9.88 million annually. It is a nonprofit, nongovernmental organization and was founded as part of the Twomey Center for Peace Through Justice at Loyola University New Orleans. All proceeds raised at the sold-out birthday bash benefit the Crescent City Farmers Market.
