On Jan. 9, Meals on Wheels/New Orleans held its annual gala, sponsored by Harrah’s New Orleans Casino, at the Ritz-Carlton New Orleans. In celebration of 14 years of community service, “An Evening of Elegance” upheld its name.
Co-chairs Lance Von Uhde and Lynn Skidmore ensured that guests had a fabulous evening by securing hors d’oeuvres from Martin Wine Cellar for the patron party on the Mercier Terrace, and for the gala, gourmet dishes from 16 top local chefs and entertainment from Deacon John and the Ivories. The black-tie affair also featured outstanding items in its live and silent auctions.
The Golden Patron Award was presented to Juan Barona, past president of the Meals on Wheels/New Orleans and a generous supporter and volunteer. Also honored at the gala was Bob Merrick, president of Latter and Blum, as an honorary chair.
Meals on Wheels/New Orleans is a private, nonprofit, volunteer-based organization. It directly supports the New Orleans Council on Aging home-delivery service of nutritious hot meals Monday through Friday to approximately 1,000 homebound elderly. •
