Ninety-five years of Girl Scouts was celebrated on June 23 at the Louisiana Children’s Museum. “Rhapsody in Green” was the Girl Scout’s first local fund-raising gala and it proved to be a success.
“ ‘Rhapsody in Green’ was a magical evening. We lined up some wonderful auction items and the music and menu were divine,” says event co-chair Mary Jane Becker. Restaurateur and Girl Scout alumnae Leah Chase was the event’s honoree. A George Rodrigue “Blue Dog” painting and an autographed football by New Orleans Saints Drew Brees were prized items at the silent auction. The party also featured live
performances by Wanda Rouzan, the Pfister Sisters and the Soul Rebels Brass Band.
A fun fact about the Girl Scouts: There are 200 million boxes of Girl Scout cookies sold each year, and the cookie sale is one of the country’s leading business and economic literacy programs for girls. We also can’t forget that the cookies are delicious!
