Seasonal Sipping

As the holidays approach, we are looking forward to fall and winter happy hours and wonderful fun around town. If you are preparing for a night out we have a few stops for you to consider.

Bar Frances (4525 Freret St.) has a happy hour with a nice selection of drinks. Featured drinks include draft beers and pickleback shots (tequila or bourbon with chef’s pickle brine), plus house wines, punch and cocktails are available for $7. The house wine selection includes rose, white, and red wine. One of the most popular house cocktails is the Corsican Tonic, which features a fantastic blend of tonic, Blanco tequila and cap corse. The contratto spritz features soda, sparkling wine and contratto aperitivo. Sbagliato bianco features sparkling wine, suze and cocchi americano. Another popular house cocktail is the Paloma, which has a beautiful blend of lime juice, fresh grapefruit, soda and tequila. Fernet and Cola features a touch of Coca-Cola and Fernet-Branca. Additionally, the Gimlet features fresh lime juice and gin, while New York Sour features red wine float, fresh lemon and rye. Other house cocktails you might want to try to include old fashioned and Sazerac.

The Bower (1320 Magazine St.) is showcasing fun cocktails in which most of the produce included comes from Sugar Roots Farm. The partnership allows the team to use seasonal ingredients to continue to inspire their cocktail menu. Here are just a few options off the menu.

LGD – Sugar Roots grows a lot of hibiscus flowers in the cooler months, which inspired this cocktail featuring reposado tequila, house made pink and orange hibiscus syrup, orgeat and mole bitters.

Hydrix – This cocktail includes beautiful herbs from the farm and we love the classic pairing of mint and bourbon as a transitional cocktail when the weather starts to cool. The Hydrix features bourbon, mint-infused contratto, amaro and aquafaba.

Fall Punch – Fall Punch is inspired by the fresh flowers delivered from Sugar Roots. The new seasonal punch includes rum, elderflower liqueur, citrus and rose wine, garnished with fresh flowers.
