A sea of guests clad in red celebrated musicians who have greatly contributed to New Orleans’ cultural heritage at the Preservation Resource Center’s “Ladies in Red” event June 10. The party proved to be festive and filled with much merriment, with beats of the George French Band playing in the background.
Prominent local musicians Germaine Bazzle and Irvin Mayfield, among others, support Ladies in Red and attended to honor their fellow tradition bearers. Honorees included Maynard Chatters, Thais Clark, Wendell Eugene and Daniel Farrow. Chairs included Ashley Aubrey and Rick Normans, and honorary co-chairs included Robin Burgess and Terence O. Blanchard. For the first year, institutions were honored with a heritage supporter award. Among those honored were Jan Ramsey and Offbeat, Snug Harbor Jazz Bistro and Preservation Hall.
Ladies in Red supports the Preservation Resource Center’s African American Heritage Preservation program (AAHP), which focuses on identifying and preserving the homes and cultural legacy of New Orleans.
