Service-Driven Dining

Co-Hosts Founder Jackie Silverman and Board Chair Dan Silverman with Executive Director Dawn Fletcher

The largest shelter for homeless women and children in the metro area, the New Orleans Women & Children’s Shelter has served more than 2,000 women and children since 2007. A large majority (95 percent) of the children at the shelter are under the age of 10. An amazing 80 percent of the families helped since 2007 have transitioned to sustainable, independent living.

The “Fine Dining Fundraiser” took place at Coquette, where chef Kristen Essig and the culinary team provided a three-course menu for guests to enjoy, including salad and soup as starters, fish and duck entrées, tiramasu and a delicate il flottante dessert.

Mitch’s Flowers created festive, Carnival-themed centerpieces, and as a nod to the shelter’s mission, small papier mâché houses were placed throughout the room.

The program was Chaired by Colleen and Allen Kirkley, Jackie and Dan Silverman and Lisa and David Schlakman. The New Orleans Women & Children’s Shelter’s Founder Jackie Silverman spoke to the group about how critical the dinner series is to supporting the shelter and connecting with our community.
