Shining Stars

It was a star-filled evening for the New Orleans Ballet Association on May 31, when the Ballet Resource and Volunteer Organization, the fundraising arm of NOBA, hosted their annual gala. This year’s theme was “Dancing with the Stars,” and was a bit unconventional for the usually black-tie affair. An elegant Benefactor Party took place a few days before on May 28, where board members looked luxe, but the festivities of May 31 were the real shining stars. Starting at 7 p.m. in the beautiful and historic Union Passenger Terminal on Loyola Avenue, the patron party was followed an hour later by the gala event, which honored Christie Mintz and Phyllis M. Taylor.

Hundreds of guests enjoyed scrumptious food, a lively auction featuring fantastic wins from local boutiques, spas and restaurants, and of course plenty of dancing. Harvey Jesus and Fire provided the sweets sounds for guests to dance the night away, while local ballroom champions were on the floor all night showing off their moves to the delight of the throngs of attendants. This year’s fundraiser honors and supports the New Orleans Ballet Association’s strong commitment to national education and dance programs, providing an invaluable 2,000 free dance and instructional classes a year to youth.
