NEW ORLEANS (press release) – The Trombone Shorty Foundation, in partnership with the Tip-it Foundation and Gia Maione Prima Foundation, announced today that Shorty Fest 2022 Presented by Acura will take place on Monday, May 2. Headlined by Trombone Shorty & Orleans Avenue, this year’s musical lineup features performances by Galactic feat. Anjelika “Jelly” Joseph, Dumpstaphunk, Dirty Dozen Brass Band and students from the Trombone Shorty Academy. Tickets to the event will go on sale this Thursday, Feb. 24 at 10 am CST at www.tipitinas.com and benefit the Trombone Shorty Foundation, whose mission is committed to helping empower and educate future generations of musicians.
“We are so excited to bring Shorty Fest back to Tipitina’s this Jazz Fest,” said Robert Mercurio from Galactic and Tipitina’s. “It is such a special evening for us as band to share the stage with our friends and support a fantastic cause.”
In addition to the coveted indoor celebration, Shorty Fest is expanding its festivities with a free outdoor block party featuring performances by local brass bands, high school marching bands and Mardi Gras Indians. Shorty Fest 2022 Presented by Acura also will feature a silent auction on the neutral ground with food trucks and more (additional details TBA).
“This year’s Shorty Fest is going to be epic,” said Troy “Trombone Shorty” Andrews. “For the first time, we’re taking it to the street with a free block party to kick off the event as we celebrate the culture of greatest city in the world, New Orleans!”
Tipitina’s is excited for the return of its Walk of Fame Induction Ceremony during the Shorty Fest outdoor block party – this year honoring the legendary musician Cyril Neville (The Neville Brothers, The Meters, Uptown All-Stars). The honor is given to musicians who have earned their place in New Orleans’ revered music history. Recipients are recognized as cultural icons in our community and have provided countless inspiration to rising young musicians and performers. Past Walk of Fame awardees have included Fats Domino, Dr. John, The Neville Brothers and Galactic.
“Acura is honored to be back presenting Shorty Fest 2022 as part of our longstanding support of the Trombone Shorty Foundation as it celebrates a decade of inspiring young jazz musicians of New Orleans,” said Meliza Humphrey, senior manager of Acura Marketing. “And a huge congratulations to Cyril Neville for his well-deserved Walk of Fame achievement as he continues to advance NOLA music culture and music fans around the world.”
Celebrating its 10-year anniversary in 2022, the Trombone Shorty Foundation – founded by renowned New Orleans musician Troy Andrews in 2012 – inspires and uplifts the next generation of New Orleans musicians by developing their talent, educating them about the music business and connecting them to the city’s unique music and cultural heritage. By offering innovative programs that develop and implement digital tools for music education, we can provide a livelihood for musicians in our community, while passing on the culture to the next generation and preparing them to lead.
