Sippin’ in Style
Guests donned their best seersucker for the Ogden’s annual fundraiser.
Men and women of New Orleans kicked off the summer in style at the seventh annual “Sippin’ in Seersucker” at the Shops at Canal Place. Organized by co-chairs Letitia and Ted George, Kristian Sonnier and Mary Wyatt Hines, the affair offered dining, entertainment, raffles, shopping specials, southern art and a seersucker fashion contest to benefit the Ogden Museum of Southern Art. The party also celebrated two current exhibitions at the museum: “Art & Jazz: Preservation Hall at 50” and “Birney Imes: Jukes Joint.”
Guests enjoyed delicious hors d’oeuvres from vendors such as The American Sector by Chef John Besh at The National World War II Museum, Bee Sweet Cupcakes, The Grill Room at Windsor Court and Vega Tapas Café & Catering. Republic Distributing Company provided mint juleps and other southern cocktails. The Preservation Hall All-Stars with Tom Sancton entertained the crowd, followed by DJ Soul Sister; David Kunian, a local music writer and producer, emceed.
The highlight of the night was the plethora of seersucker ensembles. Local designers Jolie and Elizabeth designed many of the women’s outfits. NOLA Fashion Week’s Nicholas Landry, Andi Eaton and Rachael Laroche judged a seersucker fashion contest and named Chanell Gautreaux the winner for her hand-dyed, West Indies-inspired outfit.
Lisa Caspar also won for her 1940s pin-up style, two-piece outfit.
