Sipping Ales for Scales

It is no revelation that New Orleanians have a special place in their hearts for the Audubon Nature Institute, and this year’s Scales & Ales benefit for Audubon’s Louisiana Marine Mammal and Sea Turtle Rescue Program brought over 3,500 supporters together for the organization they so adore.

On September 16, guests gathered in the Audubon Aquarium of the Americas to celebrate and support the institute. Entertaining supporters were the 610 Stompers, 3West, the Stooges Brass Band, Ray’s Island Sounds, the Washboard Chaz Blues Trio and Kermit Ruffins. Beers from over 20 bars and brewers including NOLA Brewing Company, Dixie Beer, Abita Brewing Company and Tin Roof Brewing Company were available for sampling throughout the aquarium. Accompanying the variety of libations, there was a plethora of eats for partygoers to sink their teeth into, including dishes from Camellia Grill, Ralph and Kacoo’s, Galatoire’s and Deanie’s Seafood. As for the “Scales” at the party, guests had the opportunity to get up close and personal with their wild sides through live animal encounters.

Scales and Ales weren’t all that were up for grabs at this party. Items varying from a Private Zumba Fitness Party to a Private Shark Birthday Party and an original acrylic painting by local artist Martin Welch gave guests another opportunity to support the institute through bidding in the silent auction.
