Smallpage-Sapir

Charlotte Favrot Smallpage and John Paul Sapir knew each other in high school but did not connect until later on in their college careers. The two led different lives at the University of Alabama. However, they always seemed to run into each other, be it at a football game, a fraternity party or at the gas station. The spring of her junior year and his sophomore year, their paths led them both to Destin for spring break. Charlotte and her friends happened to be staying at the same hotel as JP and his friends. After the quick trip to the beach, they both had plans to finish out their spring break in Dallas, Texas, for the Casino Night Party at Southern Methodist University. When JP found out that Charlotte was planning on making the same trip, he made sure that the two were on the same flight. He wasn’t going to leave anything else up to chance. They spent the whole weekend together and have been inseparable since.

Every year JP and his dad go to the Kentucky Derby with a group of friends. The night before his scheduled flight, Charlotte packed JP’s suitcase, like she always does, and he was off to Louisville in the morning. Once he landed, JP called to let Charlotte know the plane arrived safely, as he’d done many times before. That same night, as Charlotte was primping to attend the Audubon’s “Zoo-To-Do,” there was a knock on her door. To Charlotte’s surprise, JP was not in Louisville but there with a dozen roses and a diamond ring. He had coordinated with her father to make sure the proposal was a surprise and that things went smoothly. The couple celebrated with family at home, then off to the “Zoo-To-Do” to celebrate with friends.

After the wedding, Charlotte and JP went to Jalousie Plantation in St. Lucia for a week. The two currently reside in New Orleans, where Charlotte is a Financial Service Associate at Whitney Bank and JP is a Purchasing Agent for Donovan Marine, Inc.
