The 21st century is home to the digital age. And if you're not on board, you'll be left behind. That goes for 21st century weddings as well.
Wedding hashtags have been at the forefront for years when it comes to nuptials and technology, but a new trend is giving the hashtag a run for its money.
In the few years since Snapchat’s inception, the platform has grown to over 100 million daily active users and over 10 billion videos watched per day. It’s rise in popularity among social media users has grown exponentially and pushed the social media giant to create new and exciting additions to the app. In addition to the puppy filter or other voice and face changing options, Snapchat has installed geofilters.
Geofilters are a boarder or sticker that can be added to a Snapchat filter to indicate your location, the event you are attending or a way to commemorate a Big Day on social media. Snapchat allows users to create their own geofilters. This option has immensely changed the wedding social media game. Forget your hashtag, the new question is "do they have a Snapchat filter?"
So how does a couple, or best man and maid of honor, create this piece of social media art for a wedding? It’s actually quit simple.
If you visit www.Snapchat.com/geofilters and follow the “Learn More” for the On-Demand option, it’s really just a follow the directions application. Once you login you can either create your own filter and upload it or use their templates to design your event-specific geofilter.
Designing your own is extremely user-friendly. It gives you options to choose the border and frame, the colors and the font. You can also add your own Bitmoji character to personalize the picture. Once you’ve designed your filter, it will ask you to set a date or date-range and location area. Once those are all set, the last step is to pay for it. Pricing is determined by many factors including location and date/time of the event. Our example filter costs close to $30 for a few hours one day in March.
If you are creating your own, Snapchat gives users instructional templates to ensure your image is saved and uploaded correctly, making it simple and easy to use.
What a snappy way to celebrate your Big Day.
