Something Borrowed, Something Classic Blue

For 20 years the Pantone Institute has been the authority on all things color, influencing industries like fashion, home décor and film among others. Each year, Pantone assesses trends and influences the world over to find the color that will mark the vibe for the next year. This year, Pantone has chosen a calm and soothing color to represent our new decade.

The 2020 color of the year is Pantone’s “Classic Blue” hue.

“We are living in a time that requires trust and faith,” says Leatrice Eiseman, executive director of the Pantone Color Institute, said in the company’s release about the color. “It is this kind of constancy and confidence that is expressed by PANTONE 19-4052 Classic Blue, a solid and dependable blue hue we can always rely on. Imbued with a deep resonance, Classic Blue provides an anchoring foundation. Classic Blue encourages us to look beyond the obvious to expand our thinking; challenging us to think more deeply, increase our perspective and open the flow of communication.”

As we head into a new decade, we will be met with a national election, new advances in technology and a world of events and changes that can bring on anxiety. With this color, we believe Pantone’s hope is to bring stability and a foundation to build the new decade on.

Something blue can be a crucial part of a wedding and though this color is darker than a typical “something blue” blue, it’s a richer and deeper color that adds an element of sophistication and regality – perfect for a museum reception or swanky hotel soiree.
