Son of a Saint Announces Event Lineup Through September

Son of a Saint is committed to providing impactful experiences to all of its participants and throughout each year curates a diverse schedule of events that cater to various interests and aspirations. From educational workshops to health and wellness sessions to community service initiatives to sporting events and cultural outings, there’s something for everyone in Son of a Saint’s dynamic lineup.

“Our organization averages between 40 and 50 dynamic engagements per month for mentees to experience,” says Son of a Saint Founder and CEO Bivian “Sonny” Lee lll. “As our young men close out the busy summer season, and then head into the upcoming academic year and the fall season, Son of a Saint’s team is thrilled about the upcoming events and activities we have planned for our young men and our community of friends and supporters,” he continued. “These moments play a crucial role in our boys’ personal development through a safe, supportive, and enriching environment, while also allowing folks across Greater New Orleans to interact with us directly.”

Son of a Saint’s upcoming events, activities, and collaborations in July, August and September 2024 include:

The Chloe: Mentee Celebration and Swim Party – July 15
Son of a Saint and its longtime partner The Chloe Hotel will cohost a special summer celebration for mentees who maintained a 3.0 or higher during the school year, and mentees who improved their GPA by .25 or more.

Organization of Black Aerospace Professionals (OBAP) OBAP Academy from July 15 – 19
This interactive academy experience is designed to expose youth participants to a wide variety of career opportunities in aviation and aerospace. The program is scheduled to take place at the Son of a Saint headquarters building and will offer students hands-on learning about aviation history, the fundamentals of aerodynamics, the role of government in aviation, and the many careers available in the aerospace field.

Athletic Training Career Day with Ochsner Sports Medicine – July 17
Son of a Saint mentees will learn about the field of athletic training, and physical therapy and gain hands-on experience from experts via a simulated workstation.

NOLA Motorsports – July 19
Son of a Saint mentees and mentors are off to the races at this go-kart adventure taking place at the NOLA Motorsports track.

Tyrann Mathieu Youth Football Camp & Back-2-School Jamboree – July 20
The Tyrann Mathieu Foundation, led by New Orleans star safety and Son of a Saint Ambassador Tyrann Mathieu, will give back in a big way by hosting his fifth-annual Back 2 School Jamboree event. The occasion will host hundreds of local kids from Son of a Saint and other youth development entities for a fun-filled afternoon, with games, face painting, music, a cookout, and school supply giveaways.

Mentee Talent/Comedy Show for Son of a Saint Guardians and Staff – July 21
Son of a Saint mentees who have completed a 6-week comedy/improv class will show off their talents during a Talent Show at Comedy House New Orleans. Additional mentees are invited to showcase their talents to guardians and SOAS staff!

Son of a Saint mentee College Visits in Baton Rouge from July 22 – 25
A group of 6-10 mentees will travel to Baton Rouge to visit LSU and Southern University, as well as meet with some of Son of a Saint’s partners, such as Raising Cane’s, TopGolf, and Window World. This collegiate campus visit will provide mentees the opportunity to experience and observe all that schools in Baton Rouge have to offer ranging from academic and social priorities to long-term career opportunities.

Son of a Saint Mentor Mixer (& Recruitment Event) – July 24
An occasion for both the newest and longstanding mentors involved with Son of a Saint to connect and learn more about the organization’s future plans, opportunities, and engagements.

“Staycation” – from July 30 to Aug. 1
A three-day staycation camp that focuses on aspects of wellness and mental health for newly joined Son of a Saint mentees.

Transcendental Meditation – from Aug. 4 to Aug. 7
Through a privately funded grant from the David Lynch Foundation, instructors will teach Son of a Saint guardians and mentees proven meditation techniques in 75-90-minute sessions over four days. Transcendental meditation has been found effective in dealing with various mental and physical health issues.

Son of a Saint Women’s Luncheon Fundraiser – Sept. 6
Son of a Saint is proud to host its second annual Women’s Luncheon fundraiser on September 6. The organization looks forward to welcoming more than 150 influential and philanthropic women to its headquarters for an end-of-summer luncheon that raises both awareness and critical funds for Son of a Saint’s mission and mentees. The event also shines a much-deserved light on the incredible women who help make Son of a Saint a success.

Recurring and Ongoing Programs at Son of a Saint

In addition to its various special occasions, Son of a Saint hosts weekly recurring events, activities, and programs for its mentees. This range of programming includes opportunities like CHOP: Cooking Healthy Options and Portions culinary education classes, ACT prep courses led by ACT Qualified, soft skills workshops, financial literacy forums, podcasting sessions with BeLoud Studios, sewing classes led by RicRACK, weekly study hall tutoring with a range of volunteers, and more.

Anime Club – every 2nd & 4th Wednesday this Summer
Mentees and mentors to discuss all things anime, the legendary and ever-popular Japanese style of animation.

Money Talks – every Monday this Summer
Mentors guide mentees through financial literacy with engaging lessons and advice.
Son of a Saint holistically supports youth between the ages of 10 and 21, providing mentorship, education, mental health services, travel experiences to expand horizons, as well as internship and career-development learning opportunities. The youth development nonprofit currently serves more than 350 young people across Greater New Orleans, including its cohort of more than 200 full-time mentees, its mentee alumni, and additional tuition scholarship recipients via its Son of a Saint Scholars program. The organization remains steadfast in its mission to inspire and uplift young boys, cultivating a supportive community that empowers them to break barriers and achieve success.
