Son of a Saint is committed to providing impactful experiences to all of its participants and throughout each year curates a diverse schedule of events that cater to various interests and aspirations. From educational workshops to community service initiatives to sporting events and cultural outings, there’s something for everyone in Son of a Saint’s dynamic lineup.
“Our organization averages between 40 and 50 dynamic engagements per month for mentees to experience,” says Son of a Saint founder and CEO Bivian “Sonny” Lee lll. “As we continue through this busy spring season, we are thrilled about all of the upcoming events and activities we have planned for our young men and our community of friends and supporters. These moments play a crucial role in our boys’ personal development through a safe, supportive, and enriching environment, while also allowing folks from across Greater New Orleans to interact with us directly.”

Inaugural Son of a Saint Hoops Fest – April 13
The debut of Son of a Saint’s Hoops Fest event marks an exciting milestone for mentors and mentees alike as they take the court at the Holy Cross Gymnasium from noon to 3 p.m. in a friendly competitive environment. With the mentors and mentees facing off, the tournament will not only be a celebration of athleticism, but also will serve to highlight the bonds within the Son of a Saint Family and support from the larger community.
Daughters Beyond Incarceration and Son of a Saint team up from Youth Day at the Capital – April 24
New Orleans-based youth development organizations Son of a Saint and Daughters Beyond Incarceration will travel to Baton Rouge in a joint effort to meet with the Louisiana lawmakers and discuss potential ways to better serve the state’s youth. The group will also aim to advocate for their shared missions, amplify their voices, and foster a positive change within the larger community via meaningful engagement with lawmakers.
The Zurich Classic – April 24 – 28
The Zurich Classic is a renowned professional golf tournament held in Avondale, Louisiana, and is a part of the PGA (Professional Golfers Association) tour. Son of a Saint volunteers will be onsite during the tournament to assist with logistics and operations, and in appreciation for being a beneficiary of the tournament’s ‘Fore! Kids Foundation’ grant.
GiveNOLA Day – May 7
Once again, Son of a Saint will participate in GiveNOLA Day 2024, which takes place on Tuesday, May 7. Spearheaded by the Greater New Orleans Foundation and now in its 11th year, GiveNOLA Day continues to make a difference by powering 24 hours of giving to benefit regional nonprofits. People are encouraged to give generously starting on people to give generously so that we can make our region stronger and creating a thriving community for all.
Recurring and Ongoing Programs at Son of a Saint
In addition to its various special occasions, Son of a Saint hosts weekly recurring events, activities, and programs for its mentees. This range of programming includes opportunities like CHOP: Cooking Healthy Options and Portions culinary education classes, ACT prep courses led by ACT Qualified, soft skills workshops, financial literacy forums led by First Generation Investors, podcasting sessions with BeLoud Studios, sewing classes led by RicRACK, weekly study hall tutoring, and more.
Son of a Saint holistically supports youth between the ages of 10 and 21, providing mentorship, education, mental health services, travel experiences to expand horizons, as well as internship and career-development learning opportunities. The youth development nonprofit currently serves 350 young people across Greater New Orleans, including its cohort of more than 200 full-time mentees, as well as mentee alumni, and additional tuition scholarship recipients via its Son of a Saint Scholars program. The organization remains steadfast in its mission to inspire and uplift young boys, cultivating a supportive community that empowers them to break barriers and achieve success.
