NEW ORLEANS (press release) – Son of a Saint, the nonprofit dedicated to inspiring mentorship and transforming the lives of New Orleans youth, is accepting applications for its educational opportunities program known as Son of a Saint Scholars until April 30. Son of a Saint Scholars is a state government-authorized School Tuition Organization (STO) that collects and uses taxpayer donations to provide nonpublic school scholarships to students who meet the program’s requirements. Son of a Saint Scholars is one of only three STOs approved by the Louisiana Department of Education to provide critical funding aid to students attending tuition-based schools throughout the state. Since its inception, Son of a Saint Scholars has awarded more than $1 million and supported over 200 scholarships to attend tuition-based schools, and the numbers are still growing.
More recently, the Son of a Saint Scholars program has grown strategically to assist girls throughout the region, providing them with educational opportunities solely through financial support in the form of tuition assistance. Son of a Saint Scholars is partnering with the following schools for the 2024-2025 academic year:

The Tuition Donation Credit Program, a system established by the Louisiana Legislature, empowers Louisiana families who lack financial resources to choose the school that best prepares their child for college and career. Based on the program’s criteria, all STOs are tax-exempt, not-for-profit organizations with 501(c)(3) status. The program enables the STO to use a donation from an individual or business that is less than or equivalent to the total amount of their annual state tax liability to provide scholarships to low-income students. In turn, taxpayers earn a 100 percent credit toward their Louisiana state tax liability for the year in which they donate to a particular STO, including Son of a Saint Scholars.
