Spice It Up

One of the first things that comes to mind when thinking of the Big Easy is the food. Whether it’s for a family get-together or even a wedding-related party, everyone wants to know what’s on the menu. (Kelly here: Or, if you’re my family, you talk about your next meal while you’re still eating the current one.)

New Orleans is of course not wanting for culinary talent and two local chefs recently announced new business ventures that can add a little goodness to everyone’s kitchen.

First, Chef Toya Boudy – a New Orleans private chef, cooking instructor, author, mom of four (if that wasn’t enough) who has appeared on Food Network and Hallmark Home & Family – wants to spice up your kitchen. The chef and former New Orleans Magazine “People to Watch” honoree released four new spice blends for the home chef. She created three individual seasonings for chicken, seafood and steak, as well as an “all-in-one” that’s meant to complement anything you could think of.

James Beard Award finalist Chef Isaac Toups of Toups Meatery and Bravo’s Top Chef fame has also created a line of spices with the kings of spice Spiceology. These spices are a little different than Chef Toya’s and target a different cooking genre. Toups’ spices include “Fryclone” fry seasoning, “Heatwave” for burgers, “Louisiana Lightening” a Cajun seafood seasoning, and “Thunderdust” an all-purpose Cajun seasoning.

Not only do we share these because they’re sure to make your home cooking delicious, but we also love them for a gift basket, wedding favors or combination of gifts for a wedding or couple’s shower. Pop one or all of these spices into a basket full of kitchen necessities like spatulas, New Orleans-themed towels and more from local stores like Fleurty Girl to create the ultimate gift for a couple of home chefs.
