Halloween weekend in Lafayette and the surrounding areas is shaping up to be such a good time, it’s scary. Blackpot Festival and Cook-off returns to Vermilionville this year, and a local brewery hosts its annual costume party. The Children’s Museum of Acadiana will have kid-friendly, festive but not scary events for kids, and adults can check out a classic, debaucherous musical for charity. Happy Halloween!
10/24: Rocky Horror Picture Show: Cite’ des Arts will host a shadow cast production of the “Rocky Horror Picture Show” to raise money for local students this Thursday at 9:30 p.m. For a shadow cast performance, a group of amateurs perform at the same time as the screening. Ticket sales and donations will bring Mental Health First Aid to Lafayette public schools, which trains and equips students to help friends and family with mental illnesses. Tickets may be purchased at the door.
10/25-26: Blackpot Festival: The annual Blackpot Festival and Cook-off takes over Vermilionville this weekend! The annual jam session/costume party/camping experience is a mainstay in Acadiana for its unique celebration of Cajun culture that coincides with Halloween weekend. Attendees can look forward to dancing, trying various Cajun dishes, and camping on site after the party ends. Tickets are available at myriad prices for one- and two-night stays, as well as for attending the festival without camping.
10/26: Halloween Art and Nature Festival: Atelier de la Nature in Arnaudville will celebrate Halloween and Louisiana’s fauna and flora through art, music, food and science this Saturday from 11 a.m.- 4 p.m. Halloween activities include trick-or-treating, a pumpkin giveaway and decorating contest, DIY costume/cosplay workshop using upcycled materials, a photo booth, spooky stories and more. Master of Ceremonies will be Renella Rose Champagne of 88.7 KRVS’ program “Lost in Love.” Sweet Cecilia, Brazos Huval and more will perform. Food from the Louisiana Culinary Institute, New Generation Seafood and more will be available. This event is free!
10/26: Fifth Annual Halloween Trick-or-Treat Party with Radio Zydeco: The Bayou Teche Tap Room in Arnaudville hosts its annual family-friendly costume party Saturday from 2-9:30 p.m. Radio Zydeco will take the stage at 3, followed by trick-or-treating with the kids at 6 p.m. Song trivia starts at 6:30 p.m.! Costumes are highly encouraged for all attendees.
10/26-27: Children’s Museum of Acadiana Spooktaculat Halloween parties: A not-so-scary celebration of all things Halloween will be underway this weekend at the Children’s Museum. Kids and parents can play games in the glow room, go trick-or-treating, open mystery boxes and make arts and crafts.
