The Young Friends of St. Andrew’s Village hosted “A SAV-vy Affair” on Friday, November 19 at the Republic New Orleans. The event featured an open bar and a variety of cuisine donated by some of New Orleans’ most popular restaurants including Acme Oyster House, Bon Ton Cafe, Jacques-Imo’s and more.
Highlights from the silent auction included pearl and diamond earrings from Friend & Company; an Elsa Peretti chain necklace from Tiffany & Co.; original artwork by George Rodrigue, Terrence Osborne and Max Ryan; and sports memorabilia signed by the New Orleans Saints. Harvey Jesus and Fire provided live music.
More than 400 guests helped to raise $53,000 for St. Andrew’s. The event’s co-chairs were J. Christopher Zainey Jr., Kathryn Zainey, Margaret Zainey Roux, Alicia Corcoran and Jill Heigle.
St. Andrew’s Village is a faith-based community where adults with mental and developmental disabilities can live, work, worship and socialize. It was created by parents of disabled adults and is the first of its kind in Louisiana.
Young professionals organized the Young Friends group, which recognizes the need for a place like St. Andrew’s and supports it through fundraising and social events.
