The Ladies Leukemia League hosted its annual Fête de Noël luncheon on Dec. 8 at the Hilton Hotel. More than 1,160 people attended the event in support of the Leagues cause: to fund research for the eradication of leukemia.
The event boasted a fashion show produced by Saks Fifth Avenue and the Shops at Canal Place. During the show, guests savored cocktails and a delicious lunch. Another highlight was the parade of prizes, which featured a full-length mink coat, a $250 gift certificate to Saks and a two-night stay with deluxe accommodations at the Hilton Hotel.
A huge success, the event raised more than $116,000, all of which goes toward funding grants awarded for continued research. The fund-raiser has been held for over 30 years, is the largest of its kind, and continually contributes every penny earned to research. According to Ladies Leukemia League member Joy North, The high point every year is when the children who have leukemia are introduced and receive their Christmas gifts from Santa. There is rarely a dry eye in the room.
