The “Dancing for the Arts” fundraiser, co-chaired by Cheryl Mintz and Stephanie Osborne, was held at the theater at Harrah’s New Orleans on Saturday, March 3.
Over 350 patrons showed their support at the event that imitated the “Dancing With The Stars” reality television show where celebrities partner with professional dancers and compete amongst themselves. At this year’s event, the competing dancers included a slew of local celebrities such as performer Chris Owens, philanthropist Sammy Steele III, fitness personality Leilani Heno, interior designer Denise St. Etienne and chef Gason Nelson. Their dancing partners were members of Young Audiences of Louisiana’s “performing artists.” The director of A Walk to Remember and Hairspray, Adam Shankman, was one of the celebrities appearing on the judge’s panel. Those attending and at home were able to vote for their favorite dancer to win a “People’s Choice” award.
An open bar and a variety of hors d’oeuvres were provided for patrons.
For over 50 years, Young Audiences of Louisiana has provided arts education to local students. Currently, the program employs over 220 local artists who ultimately provide performances, residencies, and learning programs to over 100,000 students throughout Louisiana.
