Virginia Currin Bryan is an eighth grader at Trinity Episcopal School and has long been involved in community service. She first began her activism by running lemonade stands with her two sisters, Margaret Ann and Lucy, to raise money for a variety of great local causes.
Bryan has come a long way since then; she is currently an active fundraiser and volunteer for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society, Second Harvest Food Bank, St. Jude Children’s Hospital, Hope House, Habitat for Humanity and KaTREEna – to name a few.
In October 2010, Bryan began training for the Rock and Roll Mardi Gras Half Marathon with her mom, Rae Bryan.
For four months, Bryan and her mom would wake up early to train running long distances with the Determination Cancer Society. Another key factor of this strenuous training was to raise funds for the American Cancer Society. In February 2011 she completed the Mardi Gras Half Marathon and raised $5,000.
“People were so enthusiastic and eager to sponsor my run and support such an important cause,” says Bryan, who feels strongly about service. “Many people in my life have been affected by illness and adversity, and as a young person I have a responsibility to help others and set an example. I want to be a change for good in New Orleans!”
She is an honor student, avid runner and soccer player for Trinity Episcopal School and Carrollton Soccer Association. Bryan is heading to Louise S. McGehee for high school in the fall. She plans on remaining active in her high school and community.
