X Marks the Spot
Dramatic crisscross chair legs have put Christopher Guy on the map. In fact, the U.K. designer is working on a patent for them. But there’s more to these dining chairs than just a sexy set of legs. Their tall, tapered backs are made of finely woven cane and offer a surprising level of comfort and support. Opposites Attract
Sleek pewter and rugged shed elk horn make a great pair.
This versatile pitcher by Vagabond House has a look that is antiquated yet contemporary and was inspired by the need to give “up-cycled” estate pieces a bohemian feel. Friend & Co., 7713 Maple St., 866-5433, or go to www.vagabondhouse.com.
Instant Architecture
Give a new room an old look by adding some patina. The worn, torn beauty of this French gilt wood architectural piece makes it a stunning over-door pediment or a fabulous focal point when used as a mantel. Sofas & Chairs, 4116 Canal St., 486-9622.
At Home:
A Style for Today with Things from the Past (Rizzoli, $55)
Style-maker and interior designer Suzanne Rheinstein has a keen appreciation for special luxuries. She is a master at taking an eclectic mix of furnishings from the past and arranging them in a fresh, inspiring way. In her beautifully photographed book, At Home: A Style for Today with Things from the Past, Rheinstein showcases diverse samples of her work — many of which have graced the pages of such notable shelter publications as ELLE DECOR and House Beautiful. She also offers readers a glimpse into her own private homes, including a gracious Georgian Revival in Los Angeles and a New York City prewar pied-à-terre. Each one exemplifies her talent for creating attractive homes that bring joy to the art of fine living.

Hope Floats
