Stylin' and Profilin'

Five fashionable New Orleanians opened their closets and let us peek into their fabulous wardrobes, exposing their unique personal styles and fashion-forward taste. While their styles range from classic and chic to edgy and vintage, each of these fashionable five takes their style and puts a personal twist on it. Sporting the outfits that they would wear to their favorite charity event (See pg. 41 for a complete Registry of Charitable Events through the end of this year), each confidently exemplifies what it means to be a fashionable New Orleanian – the ability to make a change in the community and look amazing while doing so.

Stylin' and Profilin'

Allen Toussaint

Age: 73

Occupation: Musician/songwriter/producer

What nonprofit do you honor with your photo? New Orleans Artists Against Hunger and Homelessness (NOAAH)

What is the dress code of this event? Musician-chic

Favorite dress code: Suit and tie

Personal style: The prerequisite would be a suit and tie. I go a little further with the dress shirt –
I break the rules on colors and pattern. I’ll wear busy patterns with busy patterns. If it works at the time, it’s all right with me.

Where do you shop? Rubenstein Bros locally.

Whose style do you admire? Steven Tyler of Aerosmith and Michael Jackson

What are you wearing in this photo? A Brioni suit. The shirt could very well be a sport shirt but
I insist that it be a dress shirt. I always wear a pocket square – always. This [ensemble] really feels like me.

Beverly Matheney

Age: 51

Occupation: Former RN, Clinical Supervisor for Ochsner Hospital; community volunteer

What nonprofit do you honor with your photo? I am honoring the Arts Council of New Orleans. It has been a privilege to be a part of rebuilding and supporting our arts community. The Arts Council will be celebrating
a milestone with its 35th Awards luncheon, which I’m honored to chair. (I am, after all, an artist at heart.) My greatest joy comes from working with the many arts organizations in our city such as Young Audiences, an arts education organization of which I am President of the Board.

What is the dress code of this event: The Luncheon is Business attire, but since we’re an arts organization,
we expect everything.

Favorite Dress Code: Comfortable Dressy Business. My favorite designer is Michael Kors.

Personal Style: Comfortable, Elegant Chic

Where do you shop? My favorite place to shop is Mimi because you always find that just-right outfit. I also shop at Dillard’s and Saks Fifth Avenue.

Whose style do you admire? I admire Michelle Obama’s style – comfortable yet elegant – but I must note the attire of individuals close to home. I admire my buddy Gail Mckenna’s style for her flare of elegance and Tracy Stewart’s for her ability to make the simple simply beautiful.

What are you wearing in this photo? For my luncheon I decided to step it up a little since I’m chairing. I am wearing a beige tweed jacket with a jeweled collar and sleeve ends and matching pencil skirt by St. John Couture, shoes by Gucci and vintage pearl earrings from my late mother.

Susu Stall

Age: 45

Occupation: Homemaker/volunteer activist

What nonprofit do you honor with this photo? New Orleans Museum of Art’s “Art in Bloom”

What is the dress code of this event? Art in Bloom is a very creative fundraiser, with an eclectic group of supporters; therefore the dress code varies from bohemian chic to bright florals. The attire is generally more festive than stuffy.

Favorite dress code: Since I live in workout clothes by day, I do like getting dressed up, particularly in high heels.

Personal style: Blue jeans are a staple in my wardrobe, but as I’m getting older, I’m leaning much more toward classic styles that still have a contemporary twist.

Where do you shop? Locally I shop at Saks Fifth Avenue and several boutiques on Magazine Street. Now that I have a child at the University of California, I’m hitting the L.A. boutiques as well.

Whose style do you admire? My fashion icon is Marion Cotillard. She is the epitome of elegant chic … very feminine.

What are you wearing in this photo? I am wearing a dress by Yigal Azrouel and Jimmy Choo pumps, both from Saks Fifth Avenue.
