I have only been to one LSU game in my entire life. Not because I went to the University of Alabama for two years, or because my husband and I both graduated from Tulane. I just somehow avoided every caravan trip in college, possibly due to my propensity for car sickness (those trips are always via party bus) and then lived out of state until I was 33. So, by the time I returned to New Orleans, I was too busy having babies for day long, boozy excursions to Baton Rouge.
Now, my kids are 9 and 11 and I am due for a social comeback. And it just so happens I was invited to an LSU watch party last weekend. Not in the actual stadium (baby steps, guys) but at a bar with a slew of hardcore fans. As you can imagine, due to my lack of experience, my outfit choices were nonexistent. So, I had to head out on a search. Now, I started life as a hard core sequins and glitter kind of girl but as I’ve gotten older, I like to be a little more subtle in my revelry. There are plenty of small (and large) brands with LSU-themed sequin adorned dresses and tops, but where could I go to find something slightly quieter? Just a hint of sparkle for those smaller gatherings?
What I found is that there is no shortage of purple and gold everything in this town, but finding something slightly restrained is a challenge. I persevered and found quite a few items that fit the bill. These layered scarf necklaces at Swoon and Phina work with essentially any outfit. Also, these festive shoelaces could be added to a pair of white converse sneakers to complete your look. A headband, scarf or even earrings requires just as little coordination and zero risk of going overboard. There are so many additional options that I couldn’t include but this should get you started!
