New Orleans Hispanic Heritage Foundation’s annual Azúcar Ball.

Nonstop music, a silent auction, amazing food and much more were just some of the festivities at the New Orleans Hispanic Heritage Foundation’s annual Azúcar Ball. The gala, held on the eve of November 22, 2008, is the premier fundraising event for the charity, which provides outstanding Hispanic students in the New Orleans area with scholarships to attend many of the most prestigious schools in the city. Event chair Cuqui Moore ensured the more than 500 guests had a wonderful time at the patron party beforehand as well as the main event, both held at the LaSalle Ballroom of the InterContinental Hotel. Also in attendance were committee members Carolina Thompson-Tripani, Carmen and Ignacio Menocal, Melissa Meyers, Max Moreno and Juan Berona. The black-tie event featured music by the always-fun Julio y Cesar and Rumba Buena. Maestro Carlos Miguel Prieto, the Louisiana Philharmonic Orchestra’s principal conductor and music director, was the recipient of the coveted Galvez Cup, the highest award given by the foundation. The evening also saw 24 worthy Hispanic students receive large scholarships to premiere schools in the New Orleans area.
