NEW ORLEANS (press release) – Celebrate at “Swing in the Oaks,” a free outdoor concert in New Orleans City Park. The Louisiana Philharmonic Orchestra (LPO) will play under the Peristyle to a crowd of thousands. The concert will take place on the Goldring/Woldenberg Great Lawn. Guests are encouraged to bring their own blankets, lawn chairs and picnic fare.
To celebrate the 50th year of Jazz Fest, the LPO has designed a special program featuring jazz music and its development in New Orleans. From Scott Joplin and Paul Barbarin to Louis Prima and Pete Fountain, the LPO will be featuring orchestral arrangements of some of the most important music in American history! In addition, the LPO will be collecting food donations on behalf of Second Harvest Bank as part of Orchestras Feeding America. Those who attend are asked to bring a canned good or nonperishable food item to the LPO tent.
At the concert, City Park will offer food and drinks for purchase. Look for both the sno-ball stand in the North West corner of the lawn and the new mobile sno-ball truck, as well. Before the concert, and just across Victory Drive in the New Orleans Botanical Garden, enjoy City Park’s annual Earth Day celebration from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. This free event offers live music, educational lectures and more! Guests are encouraged to pop by before the LPO takes the stage.
