According to family history, TABASCO® brand Original Red Sauce was created in the 1860s by Edmund McIlhenny on Avery Island in South Louisiana. TABASCO® Sauce is still made there to this day, with the ingredients and process nearly unchanged. In fact, about half of the company’s 200 employees live on Avery Island, with many of their parents and ancestors having worked and lived there as well. Nearly 150 years later, McIlhenny Company is still owned and run by the McIlhenny family. From one Louisiana family to another, TABASCO® would like to congratulate New Orleans Magazine on 50 flavorful years!
